Entered the Rambler Marlin.
Perhaps the back was it’s best feature.....Still quite a good looker.

It looks like they welded together two different cars.
Which may be exactly what AMC did.

There they go again. Can’t make up a new car of their own. Gotta badge engineer their own stuff and use an old nameplate again.

Before the Barracuda? The Barracuda was introduced in 1964.

“Its fastback roof design was previewed on the 1964 Rambler Tarpon show car, based on the compact Rambler American .”
The design of that shape predated the Barracuda, if only slightly. Production may be otherwise. I recently visited the Clive Cussler car museum where they have one. I spoke with one of their restoration mechanics and he stated that it predated the barracuda. You might be right however as the two designs are so close together. I would have to dig deep into show cars.

The concept car was unveiled at the Chicago auto show at the end of February, the Barracuda was available for sale at the beginning of April. So the fish named fastback was first seen as an AMC concept, but a production Plymouth. I guess it depend on what you want to count as first, but it wasn’t the Marlin.

The closest Mopar competitor to the Marlin was the Dodge Charger. The first gen Dodge Charger was a full sized fast back. The first gen Plymouth Barracuda’s were based of the compact Valiant platform. The fast back Chargers were made for 66 and 67.
